He is a 30-year veteran of the nuclear and utility industry, most recently as senior vice president of nuclear plant projects at GE-Hitachi Nuclear Energy in Wilmington, N.C. He replaces interim CEO Shigenori Shiga, who will remain as board chairman. Roderick is a native of Houston, Mo. He comes to Pittsburgh from Alexandria, Va., where he was chairman and CEO of The Winkenwerder Company, a healthcare consulting firm. From 2001 to 2007 he was assistant secretary of defense for health affairs with the U.S. Deptartment of Defense, with responsibility for a $40 billion annual budget, 132,000 personnel, and 9.2 million beneficiaries worldwide. Before that, he served for over 20 years in senior leadership positions at Blue Cross of Massachusetts, Prudential Healthcare, and Emory University. He also practiced primary care internal medicine for several years. A graduate of Davidson College and the University of North Carolina School of Medicine, Dr. Winkenwerder received his MBA from the Wharton School.
